Weight Loss

Running for weight loss is great! You’ve got to burn calories to lose weight and running is sure fire way to burn calories.

A common pitfall when running for weight loss is overestimating the calories burned during a run. Realistic expectations are important to avoid getting frustrated in lack of results. Burn an average of 100 calories per mile. These calories add up but a lot of people figure that because they ran, they can have a treat. They overestimate the calories burned and end up ingesting more than burned.

Beware of sports drinks. While they contain important electrolytes and fluids, they are also full of calories.

It is common to not see much weight loss. Trading fat for muscle. We all know muscle burns more calories than fat so having more muscle is a good thing! More muscle also increases muscle tone so that you’ll look more fit.

Are you really running for weight loss, or are you running to change your body. Understand that sometimes you cannot lose more weight.

The quickest avenue to weight loss is a combination of aerobic exercise, strength training and healthy eating habits.
